What golf really needs

We're two days into the US Open and young Rory Mcillroy has shown that even with the absence of Tiger Woods in the field history can still be made in golf.

Shooting a near perfect round until slicing a ball into the rough and double bogeying on 18 Friday he proved he has at least learned to weather the storm a little better than he has in the past. This is huge for a game that has longed for another young phenom for what seems like years. As a fan I know golf needs this, if its not Rory than maybe it would be Dustin Johnson. After seeing a young Tiger go out and win the Masters at such a young age and then dominating the sport in the fashion he did for so long, and then dropping off so quickly. Well to say the least to anyone who actually watches golf it leaves you wanting more. Regardless whether its an American or not, whether you have always rooted for them or not you just want more.

With one more day to play and with Mcillroy holding a decent lead we can only hope he holds on to take it. Because let's face it, rooting for the top American players as of right now is so boring. Steve Stricker and Phil Mickleson are the top two and "Lefty" is all the way down in world rankings to 15.

So to Rory I say good luck Sunday. The game needs you right now, as a player, role model, and most of all as the talent you are.
