Playoff Picks: AFC

With the preseason upon us its never too early to make some extremely premature playoff picks and division winners. And so I must get it done.

Last season the Chiefs surprised a lot of people winning the AFC West. I'm thinking back to reality for them and the same for the Chargers. I believe they have put together a team that will most definately win that division. The addition of Takeo Spikes means the teams best rusher Shawn Phillips can now really let loose with consistant help up the middle. Phillip Rivers will make the offense run and they should have no problem with the division.

The AFC East is a two horse race. The Patriots and the Jets are the favorites. The Patriots seemed to know that the Jets run the ball a lot. The most in the league, and they countered it by signing some big defensive lineman. With Wilfork, Haynesworth and Ellis all on one line its hard to believe dominating the clock will be possible against New England this year. And thats the real only way to beat them. Keeping Brady and company off the field.

While the Colts have dominated this division its now possible for a team to challenge them. But not win the division quite yet. The Texans have drastically improved the defense and the Jags did as well. The Titans are not even a challenge to most of the division without handling Chris Johnsons contract. The Colts should win the division but look for the Texans to make some noise and possibly get a wild card spot this year.

The AFC North is so hard to call at times. The Ravens and the Steelers look at championship form to start the preseason in terms of just names and the people added this offseason. The Browns showed some people that they can win. But really they aren't ready for the top heavy division there in yet. The Bengals are rebuilding. Now I'm taking the Ravens for one reason. Lamar Woodley called out Joe Flacco and that got to the Ravens defense a bit. When they're mad they can be unstoppable and I think they'll take the season match up this year. And take the division.
